Artist note: "Clothes are vaguely referent to 19th century uniforms- in particular union Civil War uniforms. I had been trying to make an instrument painting that had transformative qualities (thats usually how I deem if a prop or outfit has been successful; if it performs as something other than what it is or something additional to itself). Turning the headstock towards the mirror gave it a rifle quality. Almost like what the victim in Goya’s “Third of May” would see." _ Samuel Guy
